AudioDile: Don’t Touch that Dile

The following is a list of all the remixes I've done to date. You'll notice that I'm fond of glitch-style edits and using lots of samples from various sources. If that's not your cup of tea, then I suspect you won't be here long. Enjoy!

Remixes

  • 1999 (AudioDile Goes Astray)
    Remix of Prince

It's a crime that there are so few great remixes of this killer track, although one could argue that a killer track needs none. If the original version is a private party for Prince's posse, this mix is sort of a funk free-for-all, and everyone's invited.

  • How To Be A Millionare (AudioDile’s Bankrupt Mix)
    Remix of ABC

This is my second (and vastly better) attempt at remixing this track. I had a little bit too much fun with the cash register samples from Pink Floyd's "Money", although the rest of the track took quite a bit longer to come together.

  • Don’t Bring Me Down (AudioDile’s Breakdown)
    Remix of Electric Light Orchestra

Another redux of an earlier mix I'd done, this is massive big beat edit freakout and certainly one of the most rocking mixes I've done.

  • Saved By Zero (AudioDile’s Tweak-n-Spell Mix)
    Remix of The Fixx

Rhythm Scholar was putting together some Fixx remixes that he wanted to give the band at a concert and asked me if I wanted to contribute. He also gave me a program that emulated cheesy robot voices, a la that childhood staple Speak-n-Spell. The robots took over, just like we always predicted.

  • Anew Contraption
    Megamix of Boards of Canada

Boards of Canada aren’t exactly known for dance music, but they’re a fantastically creative ambient band and I wanted to see how many of their tracks I could cram into a mix and give it a decent beat (30, as it turns out). Finished in two days in November 2003.

  • Union of the Snake (AudioDile's Parselpost Mix)
    Remix of Duran Duran

I wasn't crazy about many of the old DD remixes, which often just cut the vocals in and out randomly over extended instrumentals. Union has been a favorite Duran tune for a long time and I wanted to do a more creative vocal mix that would work on the dancefloor as well. Completed over three days in September 2004.

  • Owner of a Lonely Heart (AudioDile’s Triple Bypass)
    Remix of Yes

I think this probably completes my lexicon of Yes remixes. Another project undertaken with Rhythm Scholar, he had started his quite a while ago and kept bugging me to do one, so I did. This was originally completed as the (Black and Blue Mix), but I did some more extensive editing and ended up with this.

  • Get Down To The River (AudioDile's Cheeking In Tongues Mix)
New Remix of “Down In The River To Pray” by Alison Krauss

I've always liked this short gospel-flavored tune from the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", and since the original song is basically acapella, it was quite a breeze to work with. The opening quote, however, is from Bull Durham, for those wondering.

  • Shout (AudioDile’s Heels Overhead Mix)
    Remix of Tears For Fears

Rhythm Scholar, my brother-in-edits from Chicago suggested we have a go at remixing this one, so I agreed. It sat around half done for months without an ending, until I got sick of that and finished it in June 2004. Since I sent it to him, RS has apparently since abandoned work on his mix, so I guess you can read what you want into that.

  • Everyday Is Halloween (AudioDile’s Candy Razorblade Mix)
    Remix of Ministry

A goth/industrial/dance track I'd imagine not many people are familiar with, but I ve always been fond of it. This was mostly a quickie, I just wanted a faster, tighter version that could be played on a dancefloor. Contains a tip of my hat to "Donnie Darko".

  • Ghostbusters (AudioDile’s Ectoplasmix)
    Remix of Ray Parker Jr.

Do you enjoy your cheese thinly sliced? Huey Lewis apparently wasn't too happy with Ray after his "heavily inspired" soundtrack hit when to #1 in 1984, but you can't fault a guy for wanting a New Drug once in a while.

  • She Blinded Me With Science (AudioDile's Recalculated Formula)
    Remix of Thomas Dolby

The first mix I'd ever done on Multiquence, and the first that I wasn't embarrassed to share. Though f you aren't a fan of edits, look elsewhere.

  • Another Mix Bites The Dust
    Remix of Queen

One of my earliest mixes and one of the last done solely on Cool Edit Pro. It still seems to be popular for some reason, although much better mixes exist now. Check out the definitive mix on Rhythm Scholar's website.

  • The Cheat Is Not Dead (Hip Hop Mix)
    Remix of Strong Bad

Basically for fans of the Homestar Runner website, I had a bit of time to kill one day and wanted to do something silly with the song. I sent it to the guys that do the site, but no response. Ah well.

  • Life In A Northern Town (The 'Dile Inside Mix)
Mashup/remix of “Life In A Northern Town” by Dream Academy and “Sunchyme” by Dario G.

When I first heard Dario G's "Sunchyme", I loved it but wished he'd left more of the vocals from Dream Academy in it. I vainly searched around figuring surely someone else would have done it, but decided to take matters into my own hands and added a dash of Qkumba Zoo for good measure.

  • We Close Our Eyes (AudioDile’s Utter Hangover Mix)
    Remix of Go West

Created basically because I wanted to combine the two existing remixes into one definitive version. The mix name is an in-joke...a play on the orignal remix name, the Total Overhang Mix. So.....yeah.

  • Starship Edelweiss (AudioDile's Illogical Mix)
    Remix of Edelweiss

A little known but fantastic Star Trek-flavored dance track from the late 80's, from a strange but excellent band called Edelweiss that pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth after they released their first full length, The Wonderful World of Edelweiss, which I highly recommend if the idea of yodelling in dance music doesn't disturb you. Siegfried gets credit for suggesting the incorporation of Axel F.
