AudioDile: Don’t Touch that Dile

Here you'll find all of the mash-ups I've done to date, or at least the ones that are fit for human consumption.

Mashups

  • Autobomb (Pimp My Mix)
    AudioDile vs Kraftwerk vs Others

My first new track in several months was the first I've ever composed on Ableton. It was intended for the Kraftwerk tribute remix compilation Bootwerk, however I was a bit too slow finishing up. Better late than never?

  • West of a Northern Star
Chemical Brothers vs Dream Academy vs Go West

Another of the many ideas I get listening to song in my car. The beats are a little uneven here: sometimes strong and sometimes non-existant, but I think that just adds to the dreamy quality.

  • More Werewolves of Alabama
Boston vs Lynyrd Skynyrd vs Warren Zevon

Something tells me there's just a little bit too much going on in this track, but I never did know when to quit. At least brilliant music journalist John Sakamoto liked it. "Not quite seamless", says he, but a song about hillbilly lycanthropes cries out for a little bit of mess, wouldn't you say?

  • The Way To Dirty Fame
David Bowie vs Don Henley vs Sly Fox

"The first great mashup of 2006," said John Sakamoto of the Toronto Star. Well, I don't know about that, but I'm still pretty happy with it.

  • Manic Pressure (Drowning Slowly)
Mashup of The Bangles, Ben Folds Five, David Bowie & Queen

A friend said to me one day a while back that the piano from “Brick” reminded him of “Manic Monday”. I didn’t really agree with him, but they WERE in the same key....hmm. I liked the irony of the lyrics together too, so what the hell. This is a remixed and updated version of the original track (Manic Depression), which did not feature Bowie and Queen as this version does.

  • Very Young Boy In Jeopardy
Mashup of Greg Kihn & Square Circle

Chances are you’ve probably heard Greg Kihn but never heard of Square Circle. They haven’t really hit it big, but they have an interesting sound and the song that introduced me to them seemed like a great mash with Jeopardy. See what you think.

  • Finally Out Of Touch
Mashup of Cece Peniston and Hall & Oates

This was the one that put me on the map, it seems. It was also the easiest mashup I ever did, taking only two days.

  • Rendez-Vu at the Drop In Phoenix
Mashup of Phoenix, Basement Jaxx & Cornelius

I’d done an earlier mashup of just Cornelius and Basement Jaxx, but I was really never quite happy with it. And recently while listening to the Phoenix track, I realized what was missing. This is pretty subtle, but I think it works a whole lot better.

  • Closure To The Edit (Audiodile’s Intelliversion)
Mashup/remix of “Closer” by nine inch nails and “Close (To The Edit)” by the Art of Noise

One of my favorite remixes, I wanted to do a better version of [an earlier mix] I’d done, using Multiquence. This version is significantly faster and incorporates more samples and edits. There’s even a bit of early 80’s video game nostalgia, if you know your music.

  • Tom’s Flaming Cowgirl Diner
Mashup/remix of “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega, “Cowgirl” by Underworld and “Flaming June” by BT

One of the earliest mashups I did, edited entirely with Cool Edit.

  • Halcyon It
Mashup/remix of “Halcyon + On” by Orbital and “Leave It” by Yes

The acapella of “Leave It” has been floating around for years and I’ve always wanted to do something with it. This isn’t exactly what I’d had in mind, but since Orbital had sampled a small part of the song already, I thought it might be interesting to just use the whole song. This was another 1-2 day experiment that turned out alright.

  • Raccoon Legs
Joke/mashup/remix of “Legs” by the Art of Noise and “The Raccoon Song” by Jan Hobson & Her Bad Review

Start with a jaw-droppingly awful song about raccoons that Dr. Demento would approve of, add some Noise, and shake vigorously, then get the hell out of the way. If you haven’t heard the [original song], you should before you listen to the remix. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
